steering column lock

help!!, just had to abandon my s type r in a car park...drove fine and parked up as normal just got back in and won't start at all yellow warning light saying steering column engaged!!!! buy it isn't as I can move the steering wheel?? after trying different things it dosent even recognise the key in the barrel and keeps setting off the alarm. disconnected the battery at the moment due to the alarm going off

any idea's on how to fix this please

Do you have a second key you could try, see if it does the same thing.

Spray a little WD40 or Silicon in the lock or onto the key, push key in and out a few times, might be the little flap inside the key barrel has stuck.

so go back to the car today with one of works mechanics, put battery lead back on after 12hrs, try the key in the ignition and no luck same as last night!!!!
off chance tried the spare key I'd picked up ....worked first time😁😁😁 so whilst running quickly run back to work (and safety) we tried both keys again only spare worked changed the battery in the key fob.....bloody thing worked πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
