S Type alarm

Postby weemac » Thu Jan 28, 2016 2:23 pm

hi guys, got a problem with my key fobs, on my 2003 2.5 V6, The car battery had went flat, after recharging it, I found that the fobs locked and alarmed the car, but for some reason the car wont unlock with the fob, I have to use the key. I have also replaced the batteries in the fobs, still no luck.
Does the alarm/fobs, require a reset ? tried various things that are in the owners manual, but no luck, any advice welcome. cheers Stuart.

Hello Stuart,

is the battery fully charged?

I also had a similar problem with my X Type, the fob would not unlock the car and using the key in the lock seemed to confuse the locking system. I suspected that it may have been battery charge related so gave it a good charge and normal operation ensued.

Worth a try?

Hi Stuart and welcome to the S Type Bulletin Board.
I sometimes have the same issue with my S Type, especially if the Car has been unused for a few days, I call it sleepy Module. I can central lock and alarm with the Fob, then sometimes it won't disarm and open with the Fob, even does this with the Ctek still powered up, so not a Battery issue with mine, could you try this next time it happens just to see if its the same, this is how I cure mine...

Press Fob to open, if nothing hapens.
Put Key in Door turn to unlock but don't open the Door.
Now press the unlock Button on the Fob, you should hear all the Doors unlocking.
Open Door as normal and should be ok the next time.

Worth a try if no good I'll crawl back under my stone

thanks guys for the advice, the battery was fully charged, tried the unlock but didn't open the door as suggested, no luck, so decided just to press the open button for several seconds, the indicators flashed and hey presto, the fob worked as normal :D cheers
