Hi,
Whilst tooking at the wiring diagrams and fuse boxes in particular for an early car (MY2000 standard 3 ltr) I noted a comment that fuse 15 in the front fuse box is 30 amp for heated wiper blade area and 40 amp for heated RH front screen. I have a 40 amp fuse at 15 position.
I've looked at the letters and numbers printed on the screen (lower left hand corner) but I doesn't mean anything to me. Is there a way of discovering what I have fitted??
It is a standard car with a few extras added at build and supplied from Belgium (bought in UK and driven home, hence beam deflectors still in the boot).
Thanks
Brian

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
Brian,
If you are asking if you have a heated front screen fitted or not, you need to look carefully at the windscreen. The heated screens have fine elements running from top to bottom. Some people find them really annoying and can't drive a car with them, while I think they are great. My guess is that you would have noticed the elements, so most likely do not have a heated screen fitted.
My S Type has a heated screen and a kit car I build 12 years ago based on a MkIII Fiesta was fitted with one when I built it.
Regards,
Steve

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
My first MY2000 V6 SE S-type had a heated front screen, heated seats and door mirror defrost and headlamp washers. What joy the heated screen and seats afforded in the winter!
Alas, my somewhat basic V8 does not have these wonderful additions. Sorely missed in the winter causing de icer spray externally and a cold posterior internally.
As I recall, the front screen switch was to the left of the rear screen heater switch on the heater control panel. The heater elements were just visible in the screen but did nothing to reduce vision.

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
From your helpful comments and back to the wiring diagrams plus S type catalogues (yes I know I'm an anorak)it seems that to have a heated windscreen you have to have had the 'Winter pack' fitted (not fitted as standard to any trim level - old S types)which as Mike says is Windscreen heater, headlamp wash and heated seats.
To have the heated screen I would need to have have fuses 15 and 16 as standard but also fuse 13 in the front fuse box, I have all THREE!!!!!
I can't see any wires in the windscreen regardless of which light I'm in or lamp I use.
I don't have a warm bum or headlamp washers, I did wonder as it was supplied from Belgium whether local regulations required a heated screen.
From my hand book the heated screen button on the dash is either heated wiper park or heated screen and wiper park so is fitted as standard ( a friend has just wiped out his wiper motor and linkage in this freezing weather as the heaters arn't fitted to his old Astra).
I'm now wondering if someone is taking the p!** and fitted the extra fuses/uprated fuses.
Google search of the pilkinton numbers don't reveal much other than it was made in England and covers American specs.
Either way I could wait for eternity for the screen to clear unless I blast it with high fan.

Brian, for reference this is what the switches on dash look like on my own Car, though I expect they use the same type with the non Sat Nav...

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
Yes Doug that is a nice dash with the centre panel, post March 2002, mine/ours is 2000 so has the big semi circular dash, but I expect to keep cost down everyone had the same dash early or late, just the more you paid the more toys you got behind the switches.
When we were looking for a car I did like your dash but it meant an electric handbrake, so regretfully gave that up. This was bought as my 65th birthday present (this Sunday) so although my wife had to be comfortable driving it (she won't drive the MkII as its 12 years of my life rebuilding that car) I had the say of the spec. she just wanted the colour and leather.
Daft question and in the wrong place but how do I write the details of the car across the bottom of the post, to save repeating it.

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
Even if you have the button for the screen heater it doesn't mean that the whole screen is heated. Some screens have the wiper park zone heated but nothing else.
I had to replace my screen recently because I cracked it trying to remove the mirror (a whole other story) but I thought this would give the opportunity to have a fully heated screen. Alas it isn't so, the connectors for the wiper park zone heater are at the bottom on the left hand side whereas fully heated screen has them at the top and bottom on the right hand side.
Don't know if this is true for post facelift cars but I think applies to pre - 2002.

Re: To have or not to have a heated front screen????
Our 2006 focus has the front and rear heated screens and I think it is a great idea, our 2000 S type doesn't seem to have suffered from misting up the screen and I'm wondering if its due to the AC being permanently in use to remove the humidity??
