Auto Lighting Sensor

Postby rosemary » Thu May 14, 2015 11:07 am

The road lights on my car 2005 2.7d come on all the time when the rotary lighting switch is in Auto. Obviously this is correct when the ambient light is low enough to activate the sensor but it has just started to come on during daylight hours, does the sensor wear out and where is the sensor anyway, is it difficult to replace. Incidentley my Auto Rain sensor system has never worked since I've had the car . 8)

Hello Dave.

Try this link. A lot of American clap trap in it but might help you never the less.

There is quite a bit generally about this type of issue on the internet. I just typed in "Jaguar auto sensor failure" and came up with the above. Plenty of other material available also on the browser pages. Worth spending a little time on research as I`m sure someone else may well have had similar issues.

Thanks Mike, I went to the link you gave, after reading a bit I lost the will to live!.
The system works as it should on the switch i.e.turns on and off so I'll live
with it for a while until I can,as you say, learn a bit more about it. It does however
Work as running lights by default!! The car is running beautifully though, now done
127,000 miles.
Another quick one,my rear parking sensor is not working, I think I know which is the
offending sensor, My question:- after removal of the bumper to replace the sensor/
check connections is there any way to test operation before replacing the bumper.

You should be able to test the sensor if removed from the bumper and then just plug in to the plug on the loom. The sensor should tick quietly if it is working. Often you can give the sensor a technical thump with the palm of your hand whilst in the bumper cover. I have one sensor that responds to such treatment. You may be able to get your hand up under the cover and tweak the sensor plug and disturb any road filth and or a poor electrical connection to save removing the cover.

Try also unplugging the module in the boot and reconnecting again. Often faults of this nature will come good after a re-establishing a good connection.
