Audio Display and Message Centre Backlighting.

Hi Guys - New to the Forum. The backlighting for the Audio Sytem and for the Dash located Message Centre on my 2002MY Sport is considerably dimmer than that of the Climate Control. It is not adjusted by the Instrument Light Dimmer Switch. Can it be brightened by any means other than by substitution?.

Welcome to the Forum, John.

The instrument lighting is controlled by the dimmer unit near the head light switch. Does that not give you the lighting level you desire?

I`ll have a look at the system on my MY02 car when it gets dark and then post back with what the dimmer on my car controls.

Thanks Mike, The problem is that the backlighting to these two screen is NOT controlled by the Dimmer Switch. I am wondering if it it is pre-set at the factory and whether it can be altered via the 'Diagnosic Wizardy'.

Issue understood.

Not come across this before and to my knowledge not ever queried or mentioned at any of the previous seminars on the S-type.

Mike be worth emailing David Marks or XJK to get a definitive on this. Otherwise have a word with a Main Dealer or Independent repairer.

Been thinking about this subject again.

Instrument and control console lighting was never a good point on early cars. I don`t know if later cars were any better but I doubt it. In sunlight or other adverse lighting conditions, the message centre, clock, heater controls etc can be impossible to read. I guess this is perhaps why you wanted to know if intensities could be changed to a higher level of illumination.

I`d be suprised if parameters could be changed within control module settings.
