Indicator Fault Found and Fixed

Postby robv12 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 9:58 pm

the old girl is now 2000 miles into our ownership, spares day round trip of a shade under 900 miles, at 31 to the gallon of go go juice, propet stuff, not tractor juice, then two trips over to the west of Scotland, one a JEC regional event and one to my new best friends at Prestige Jaguar, well they should like me the amount of wonger they have had off me!!!

this trip was to diagnose and fix the double speed flash on the indicator tell tale on the dash, I had the message "failed right hand front side repeater", it clearly was ok, so popping the unit out revealed Mr Bill the Bodger had beaten me to it, a new unit had been installed but the wiring had been cut and a new feed let in from somehere else in the car, removing the upper slam panel cover revealed the other end of this wire cut into the right hand front indicator and bodged with a twist and a bit of stripey tape, don't you just love 'em!!

So over to Douglas, Jim and Ian at Paisley, Douglas had a gut feel I had a broken wire in the loom at the front of the car, this entailed getting the arch liner out, and the front bumper "peeled" downwards

to reveal the front loom attached to the bumper beam

a rats nest of wiring all bound up in black tape, however Douglas's hunch was correct, there was evidence of non original binding on the loom, this had allowed water to collect and as it transpired get into a previous repair, took some time to locate the break but the boys got there

new sections let in at the main loom, the side repeater and the front idicator, sealed and insulated correctly, including leaving drain holes in the binding on the main loom,

four hours later was one my way again

another success and recommendation for Prestige Jaguar, thanks for the advice, knowledge and coffee chaps

I told you not to buy it. Would you listen? Would you hell.

Everyone knows if the right hand dicker gives up, its a bumper off job. If only you had asked we could have told you.

This high tech car is far too complicated for you. Try hair dressing. It`s a lot less technical.

from what I am learning Mike, all the front end wiring on S Type is prone to failure, at least the bumper came off and will come off easily next time, but is was good to see it done for me, so as I know exactly where to go next time

as for hairdressing, I think not, i'll stick to beer drinking, simpler by far, using the ancient rules of vertical drinking
