Air bag warning

The air bag warning light on my 2003 MY S-type lights up when I start the engine. First it flashes ONE time then a short brake and then flashes SEVEN times. This sequence is repeated two or three times. After the flashes it lights steadily. What is wrong?

Code17 appears to be a passenger movement sensor problem. CAN data bus malfunction with the fault perhaps being in the wiring.

I would start looking at the multi plugs under the seat. Pull apart, check for corrosion or poor contacts and reassemble. I would then disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. This is known as a hard dump which clears down fault codes. Reconnect, reset clock and radio with the four digit code. Start the car. If the light is no longer flashing, you have cleared the fault. If it remains, you might then need professional help.
