Oil change specialist.

Hi.
Does anyone know of a specialist who can do an auto box oil/filter change in Wiltshire/Hampshire area?
It's a bit specialised for the local guys to do.

Tom Lenthall is a respected very experienced Jag independent specialist. Not related to KWE.

I've used his services for a supercharger upgrade and also for a gearbox fluid replacement on my supercharged Range Rover (4.2 Jag engine). Very happy with the work they did.

Tom did the work I couldn`t or didn`t want to do when I first got my XJR. Gearbox and diff oil chaqnge (well worth doing whilst your car is on the ramp) and also subbed an ECU reflash out to resident Visue partner, Gerald Morten. That was a laugh a minute whilst we all piled in and dragged grunt out of my "R". A different vehicle on the trip home!

A very different operating style to KWE.

David R uses Hollygrove Jaguar at Ringwood to great effect. Will is the owner. Just off the A27 near Ringwood.
Facilities are comprehensive if not somewhat agrecultural. However, you will get the quality work you need.

Otherwise, there is always Jagcare at Port Solent, Portsmouth which I believe has now changed hands and could now be run by Shaun who previously operated out of a rather grubby transport yard near Southampton. He also has a good reputation although I`ve not used his services.

But then again......
3 months ago a friend had the oil changed on his XKR and a couple of weeks ago it lunched itself totally.
£3k to fix.
There is a school of thought that says leave well alone if it is working ok.

I guess there will always be the odd gearbox failure soon after a transmission oil change. (In the same way that I once got a puncture driving home after having had new tyres fitted!)

And that failure could be completely unrelated to the fluid change. OR it could be exacerbated by it with sediment and sludge having been disturbed.

I know from my 4.0 XJS that a simple fluid drain takes only 2.4 litres out of a total of over 9 litres in the system. That's why I'd recommend a proper system flush which has more chance of fully draining any sediment that could otherwise just be disturbed by a simple drain.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. (I'd still take the risk of a failure after fluid change, rather than not do it!)

Gearbox oil changes figure on Jaguar service sheets as an action at each and every 60k service interval. That includes fitting an new sump/filter unit to the gearbox.

Oil which has done 60k miles of service is to be considered very much time expired. Keep to that regular 60k service action and you will be doing your best to preserve long term transmission life. Keep flogging old oil for over extended intervals and an almost certain transmisssion failure will result.

Take a car that has done say 110k miles and then has an oil change. The detergent effect of the new oil is likeley to dislodge 50k miles worth of wear down particulate that has occured directly as a result of ignoring the 60k recommended oil change intervention. Clapped oil claps out gearboxes. QED!

Yeah, his had done 90,000 so I guess that makes sense.
Need to sort the parking brake first though.
