Squeaky clutch

I am beginning to notice an annoying squeak when I let the clutch out slowly. It's OK on fast changes on the motorway but in town it sounds like a creaking gate. It will go for several days without a problem then suddenly I get it for a day or so before it quietens down again. Any ideas?

If it is the clutch pedal creaking, then the chances are a few well aimed drops of light machine oil on the pedal fulcrum pivot may cure the problem.

If it is the clutch mechanism itself, then this may be the first signs that the clutch may be coming towards the end of its useful working life.

There is an internal clutch slave cylinder mounted on the front end of the gearbox housing. The old type external slave cylinder, fulcrum plate and peg arrangement has been designed out. I am more inclined to suspect that the clutch outer cover diaphragm unit may be becoming worn or the clutch centre plate be becoming worn also. There have also been some issues with the dual mass flywheel breaking up.

I suspect that without stripping the gearbox out of the car and examining internal clutch components at that time, you may just have to live with the noises until you eventually have to change clutch components for new. Nothing lasts for ever.
