Low mileage for S Type Sport 2.7 Diesel

I was concerned to read David Marks comment in the February issue of Jaguar Enthusiast that doing low mileage in a diesel engined car will "inevitably lead to regular problems". As a result of a change in circumstances since buying my 05 registered S Type Sport 2.7 Diesel, I only use the car once a week for a 70 mile round trip, about half of which is motorway driving but also involves a rush hour crawl on A roads. What sort of problems is this likely to cause and is there anything I can do to limit them (short of driving around needlessly to increase mileage?

My understanding of this problem is that it relates to short "individual" journeys rather than low mileage overall. Your weekly seventy mile trip shouldn't be a problem especially as it includes some motorway use.
The problem arises specifically with repetative short journeys which lead to problems with the regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) which can result in expensive repairs.

Tony is correct about your usage. Cars with the DPF filter need to be run more to enable the filter to "regenerate" My car is a 2004 model and does'nt have DPF.

With your car being a 2005 model it might not have DPF (Idon't know when they changed over)
But I do know that if the tail pipes point downwards it's not got DPF.
