Just started the engine on my 2.7d S Type (150K) and got restricted Performance alarm up. haven't run the car for about 4 or 5 months so was a bit surprised, kept on maintenance charge system since declaring SORN and letting it become one with nature in my yard,. Replaced the cooling system block manifold last summer. Saga was ongoing about this :- told engine removal required etc to do it according to Main dealer and local garage said, worth more than the car all for a £37 piece of kit. Did it in situ. On starting the motor today had P132D, P132A, P010F, P010C and P 0404 come up and Restricted Performance in message centre. Thought:- oh yes :- it's behaving itself as usual. Turned engine off, restarted, cleared DTC's (iSoft 930) turned engine off, restarted, all DTC's remained off, car reported no DTC's anywhere in the system, allowed car to warm up to Normal Temperature, no further DTC's. Should I get rid of the car now rather than keep it as an antique?. How much is it worth as scrap. Glad I bought a BMW Mini last summer|||| (11K) Still got the XF as well though and that seems to be working ok (95K), by magic I think.

Re: Restricted Performance
Dave,
I`d suggest a breakers buying price would probably be about £200 which would allow him to make a profit of unknown value from parts. Given the current Covid situation, you possibly might be offered less....Now is probably not the time to sell.
As we know, Jaguar electronic stability is not one of the makes strongest attributes. I`d suggest the initial start up DTC codes were due to the OBD system failing to complete fully on that occasion. On the second start, the diagnostic then completed successfully. Why should that be? The short answer is that perhaps the battery voltage stabilised and the OBD system found that more within limits. I`ve lost count of the times I`ve seen this type of antic. With my XJR having been laid up for over three months now, I confidently expect it to throw a hissy fit when ever I next turn the key. I`ve been charging the battery regularly but even with that done, lay up gremlins will inevitably found their way into the car.
Trust you are keeping well, Dave.

Re: Restricted Performance
Hello Mike
Good to hear from you, we are fine a bit fed up but plenty to do. Your comment reflects my thoughts fully so I’m not going to get excited about it. I’ll just let it become one with nature as I have for the last year, the car though still looks pretty good shame to sell it to a scrapper, I will probably give it eventually to one of my kids, my eldest has in fact said he’d like it, mad like me.
Best Regards
Dave

Re: Restricted Performance
Several reasons for the lay up.
Firstly I didn`t want to use the XJR for short journeys in the winter.
Secondly, I`m now not doing the Pompey to London dashes as I got washed up to my parents place to help with my ailing Father. Last year the XJR only covered 1200 miles in one MOT year. Frankly, its hard to justify continued ownership but I can`t bear to part with it. Nothing compares to the XJR especially after all the work I did to it when first acquired. Its lost little value since I bought it. Its paid for so I might as well keep it. Its on a maintenance charger although currently needs a damned good wash and polish. Now the spring is here, I need to get that done. Sadly Father died today so my attentions are away from the car for a while.
Thirdly, the Peugeot Pope Mobile we bought to move my highly disabled Father around in, is far the better vehicle for local driving. Running cost are just one quarter of the XJR. In addition the Pug only costs a £30 annual road tax whereas the Jag costs twelve times that!
Fourthly, I found the Pug so useful for taking my model planes to local flying fields. As it is stripped out behind the front seats, it makes an ideal vehicle for carting junk around in.
Lastly my collapsed spine and raging sciatica have lead me towards an easier vehicle to get in an out of. The Jag is so much lower that I`ve found the Pug to be a more pleasant user experience.
So the XJR is presently SORN`d pending a future decision on whether to keep or sell. I don`t like the car just sitting there unused but I`ve had little time to myself whilst Father was alive. As of today, that situation changed at 02.00am this morning due to the vicious combined effects of Parkinsons and Covid19. The end of an era but no plans made yet as to the future of anything. Mother and I are under two week quarantine so the use of any car is presently rather academic.
All the best, guys. I`ll remain a JEC member for quite a while yet. I like the hack offered by the Club and very much enjoy our Model Section blatherings. I`d miss that greatly if I were to jump ship.

Hello Folks
On a lighter note I started the S type up in the yard a couple of days ago and got Transmission failure, Gearbox Failure, Handbrake failure, ABS failure, Climate control failure. Instrument cluster failure, a full house I think. Thought great little car, glad I can't go anywhere being in total "Lockdown" having got the "Letter" and stuffed till July 12th. Don't you just love Jaguars!!!!!! Garages, Main Dealers and Independents, are going to recover very quickly with Jaguar owners alone when all this ends. Might be good idea if the JEC Magazine gives some advice!!!!!!, the alarms are all rubbish.

Re: Restricted Performance
I know the feeling Dave. First thing mine throws up after sitting for a week and backing out of the garage is GEARBOX FAULT I leave it ticking over for five mins turn off then re start and all's fine. sometimes put it on a low charge for four or five hour's just to keep things fettled. I remember years ago when I was looking fore an S Type at a well known car super market here in Cheshire, I got the keys for nice looking one and on starting it up the first thing I noticed was a message saying (you've guessed it) GEARBOX FAULT and I thought to myself why would anybody put a car on a pitch with a fault like that. Thou now I realize that it was more than likely low battery voltage.

Hello Jeff
Good to hear and confirm how wonderful Jags are!!!!!!!! I am "certified" as without a brain having had four of them, my friends are mostly pond life the same as me . My friend Oliver has just bought a Sportbrake earlier in the year, lovely colour blue, also now with a flat battery and all sorts of alarms (DTC's). Told him forget them , buy a Ctek maintenance charger and just leave it, I'll clear them with my i930 as soon as we are released from incarceration, go and enjoy decorating the house, it's what he does!. I'm making 54mm White Metal Cast soldiers, Battle of Waterloo, casting them then painting, really enjoying it, not working on Jaguar repairs. Looks like my interests have wandered off!!! A new lease of life!!!!!!
