Oil Pump

Hi, I have a Jaguar s type 2.7 Diesel, 2007. At 70,000 miles on the clock I feel that I should change the timing belt, no problem with that but should I change the Oil Pump at the same time? If anyone has tackled this job can they give me an insight to the job. I note that some people say that it can be changed with out removing the sump. I believe that some of the Land Rovers with the same engine had a weakness with the oil pump, is it the same on the Jag? Any input would be much appreciated. Simon

Hello Simon
I had my Cam Belt changed at 85,000 miles, because it was reported as shredding, this was whilst the "Main Dealer" was looking for a "misfire" that actually didn't exist. A long story. I made the mistake of not asking for the water pump to be changed at the same time. I had to have this and the idler replaced shortly after.( disturbed by the cam belt change according to the" Independent Jag Specialist") No mention had or has been made about the need to change the oil pump. My car has now done 150,000 miles.( 2005 2.7 tdi.).

Hi Dave, Thanks for that, I guess it's best to change as much as possible while the thing is stripped down. I have heard a few horror stories about this 2.7 engine failing, so I have become a bit paranoid which is a shame because it's a great car to drive and I love it to bits.

The pre DPF engine is reliable I've had one for 10 years now, but the later ones with DPF can give you problems if you do short journey work.

Thanks Jeff, it's all a bit of a learning curve at the moment. I must admit, i've had easier cars to work on!!!
