I hope to get some opinion on this as to whats happened or if or not there is a problem. Since yesterday there has been this whistling/ wheezing noise with a fall-off of power when on a slight hill. Then it would be ok on the straight but not good for overtaking. So off I went to discuss with my local garage.
(My first thought was turbo) anyway mechanic had a look and a listen and said ' it could be one of several issues but would examine it next week.
OK ! booked in but now on the return journey home (about 5miles) the noise has disappeared and full power has returned.
This is on my 2.7 diesel and though I dont do much mileage it is nearly at the 100k mark. I routinely use a fuel additive at every other fill-up
I would appreciate any opinion on this.

Had a similar issue with my Volvo. Turned out to be a split turbo air hose. Suggest you check security and condition of all turbo hoses - particularly the undersides of hoses (where the oil sits and which are generally not visible).

Oh! thanks Robie, couldnt get the reply page to work then for a while.
I will try to have a look at those hoses tomorrow.
No doubt there is a lot of covers and stuff to unbutton before getting a look

Get a reputable Diagnostic check should come up with the correct fault code highlighting the problem

Thanks Robbie and Sheldon. The asthmatic car has now been sorted once again. On examination and testing by my local independant it was found to be caused by a slight leak at a turbo-charger and one other in the middle of the exhaust system. These were repaired plus a loose sensor. An extra benefit I found ( which wasnt mentioned to me ) was that now the fuel guage was working properly. Well, for two days before reverting back to its usual malfunction. The battery having been disconnected for the welding probably made for the temporary reset of the fuel guage on reconnection.
I'm sure someone will know more about that but I just keep my eye on the 'Miles Remaining' .

Robbie, The car was in dock for two days and welding work on exhaust to stop the asthmatic attack______ cost 100 pounds ( lost the pound key)
Definately not Main dealer costs! lol
