Steve, it sounds like you've got the 'auto volume' mode set on your head unit, but you may not realise it. This feature allows the volume to be louder when the car is on the move but turns the volume down so you don't get deafened when you slow down, e.g. for roundabouts or taffic lights. The auto volume feature can bet set or cancelled by going through the various menus found if you press the 'mode' button on the head unit. One odd thing that I have noticed though is while a cd is playing it sounds as though the level of the volume goes up and down whilst playing all on it's own? strange...

Thanks Brian, i will have a look to see if the setting has changed. As i have said the system went on and off in a split second so could have changed something. Wishing all club members a happy Christmas and a great new year.Steve
Re: S Type Diesel
Hi everyone, it's been a few months since I last posted a few comments on my s type. The DSC light that was coming on has returned, thought I had seen the last of it when I had the map sensor changed last December. It's very strange that it seems to come on once a week and once you stop and restart the engine it goes off again. I purchased a OBD diagnostic tool from Amazon and down loaded an app to help me see what was going on but it does not give any indication of faults when used. The latest thing is steering wheel shake when braking from above 50 mph on the motorway when you apply a light pressure on the brake pedal. It is as though the brake disc's are warped, the front disc's and pads were changed at the end of last year. When you apply a heavier pressure the brakes feel ok, anybody else had this issue?. I am looking forward to the Weston Super Mare car show this weekend as it's in my neck of the woods and also purchased my ticket for the meet at Windsor in May. Anybody coming down to the West Country on Sunday ? Steve
Re: S Type Diesel
The OBD issue still sounds like a battery related issue to me.
It appears that the diagnostic program in the car is failing to complete which is usually down to battery terminal voltage being low. This can occur if the car is left standing for a few days. If you start up, and perhaps switch off after a couple of minutes, the alternator will have topped up the battery slightly. When you do another start, the battery is at a higher level than it was before the first start. That increase in voltage is then perhaps high enough to allow the diagnostic program to complete successfully and you don`t get any fault lights or messages.
With your new diagnostic set up, is it the Torque Pro? If it is, then you should be able to get the fault code easily and then clear it if the fault was a glitch or you have rectified an issue.
As to the brakes, I have just had to replace the front discs on my X350R for the reasons you mention. I had vibration when cruising and more so when braking from 70>50 mph. I replaced the discs and both issues disappeared. Both discs were thinned and possibly warped. The new discs were 0.75kg heavier than the old worn items. I suspect that the old discs had also gone out of balance.
Suggest you go to the British Parts site, grab the OE part numbers applicable to your model and year, then type the part number into your search engine together with the word "ebay". With luck you should find the OE part number cross referenced to sellers punting Mintex OE discs. Jaguar install Mintex discs as OE equipment. You can buy Jaguar boxed or logo`d parts for a premium price or buy the same parts in a Mintex box. Buying Mintex can save you money although the part is one and the same as fitted at the factory. Example for my car....four discs and two pad sets from Jaguar, £381. Careful shopping on ebay brought OE Mintex for £167.50 from four different sellers! I can live with that.

Re: S Type Diesel
Hi. Mike, thanks for coming back to me. I changed the battery last year for a model listed in an earlier post. The original battery had been in the car since new so was 10 years old. As for the obd it is the torque pro app i down loaded, possibly user error as i have not used the set up before. I paired the phone to the reader and with the engine running checked for fault codes, the app went through its diagnostic check and came back no faults found. Any idea where i am going wrong?. Going to get the brake disc's checked to see if there is a problem, they were changed last year at my local jaguar garage (swallows) who have been looking after the car for me.
Re: S Type Diesel
Perhaps you have no fault codes!
What you do sometimes see on this app is a permanent P1000 and P1111. Those are not faults, just part of the system which essentially says the Torque is ready and available to undertake diagnosis.
PTJS 1 is the wizard with setting up. In the meantime, go through the menu selection and get to know the unit and its foibles.

Re: S Type Diesel
Just tried again with the obd and finding that there is still no codes coming up. Adaptor errors is zero but other errors was slowly counting up as i left the engine ticking over. Count was up to 13 when i turned it off. Everything else seemed ok, it was telling me that it was connected to the ecu and was giving me info about the car. Perhaps when the dsc light comes on it does not register a fault.
Re: S Type Diesel
Hi Mike, it's been a number of weeks since i last posted on the dsc light coming on. I tried the diagnostic tool again while the light was showing on the dash but still nothing came up on the scan. Today on my way home from work I was stationary at a roundabout and noticed the light on, there was a slight hesitance when I put my foot down to go, the restricted performance light went on and off and then the dsc light just stayed on. What has been strange is that it usually comes on and then nothing for a week. I try and not use the car for short journeys as this does the car no good being a diesel. It will get a run next weekend as I'm going to the Windsor Castle event on the Saturday and have bought tickets for the racecourse event in the evening. Staying overnight in the Castle Hotel with a reserved parking space for the jag....1200 jags on the day, should be something special. Steve

Re: S Type Diesel
Hi Steve,
I have written on here many times about the importance of carrying out a disc run out check at fitment. The brake vibration problem to which you refer is symptomatic of failing to carry out a run out check and also the time lapse to which you refer is about right .
It's dead easy to say it's those crap discs again - nobody dare question the quality of fitment !! You might care to ask if a run out check was carried out and what figures were recorded ----- I can tell you the answer now.
I'm not sure why I bother repeating myself cos nobody takes any notice

Re: S Type Diesel
After reading all the replys to this problem i notice that no mention of the most important and basic reason for issues can be caused by poor earth connections. On the 2.7 at the front of the Engine Bay by either side of the Radiator are Earth terminal Posts with many Earth Terminals attatched to them .Even if the nuts are tight it is worth removing them and cleaning all the individual Terminals and the Body Work where they are attatched to.Refit then cover with Vaseline or Copperslip.
