LPG Conversion

Wondered if anybody has converted their S type to LPG, I have 2002 V6SE, garage told me straight forward job and good saving on petrol, but I'm worried about performance ,and of course loss of boot space,
Re: LPG Conversion
I would suggest you look on the lpg forum, as this has been aired on there.
It seems there are a number of issues but it is not insurmountable, the S type does not have a return fuel pipe to the tank, only supplying enough petrol so a return isn't required.
This means that when running on LPG the fuel pump has to be fooled into thinking its OK for no fuel to be pumped ( apparently not ideal but can be made to work) or a return line is fitted to the fuel filler pipe so the engine is happy to pump fuel and doesn't throw a hissy fit.
I run a 3.8ltr MkII on LPG but decided not to convert the S type due to the loss of wheel well for the tank (I have a full sized spare in there now).
Another consideration is that lpg can be very hard on the ignition system, I cured the MkII of eating plugs by using NGK Iridium, as does the S type now.
'Mugglestone' who advertises in the JEC is very well respected on that site and has been converting Jaguars for many years, it may well be worth your time to contact him.
The advantages of fitting a GOOD system, not the cheapest, is that it is very economical and when running is not noticeable. Our MkII gets about 30mpg equivalent cost to petrol, is quieter and has a loss of 1 bhp (rolling road comparison). We have used the car on trips to the continent and usually managed to get gas most times, the exception is Scotland where it was very difficult to find.

Re: LPG Conversion
I agree with Brian's views.
Good systems utise a small upper cylinder lubricant tank which traces lubricant into the induction system when gas is used. This replaces lost fuel "wetness". Gas is a dry fuel when compared to petrol. Tracing lubricant into a gas running engine ensures that lubricant is still present, thus reducing the possibilities of valve erosion and consequent recession.
