S-type at 20 - Celebration!

Postby GJS-typeR » Mon Aug 06, 2018 10:12 pm

Evening all,

The 20th of October marks 20 years to the day of the Jaguar S-type’s unveiling in Birmingham. To mark this anniversary we have asked Tony O'Keefe of Jaguar Classic to open the facility as a focal point of the celebrations, and he has agreed. :D

Classic Works in Coventry is an extremely impressive place, and they have agreed to give JEC Members free tours! These normally cost £49 if you walk in off the street. We are still finalising the details, but at present, the plan is to spend the morning at Jaguar Works learning about what they do and admiring some of their collection. In the afternoon we can go out for a drive across the Warwickshire countryside, following a similar route to the one written by Howard and Ann Hunt for the Wroxhall Festival earlier this year.

Spaces to both the JLR Classic Tour and the afternoon’s Celebration Drive are limited (by the number of cars, rather than people). As this is a Jaguar Enthusiast event, you do not need to have an S-type to join the celebration, but if you do have one it would be great to get the cars together for a commemorative photo.

If you would like to join us in celebrating 20 years of the new Jaguar S-type, feel free to respond below, but please also send an e-mail to stype.jec@gmail.com it will really help us with the administration.

This is great, many thanks Gordon for organising this, sounds like it will be a worthwhile and interesting day celebrating 20 years of our S Type Cars.

Afternoon all,

Numbers are building for this event - so far we have 30 cars from the JEC. There will be an advert in September's Jaguar Enthusiast magazine due out in a couple of weeks. Please make sure that you get in touch early as places are limited by Jaguar Classic.

Really looking forward to it...

Gordon

We're now at 40 cars and around 75 people...

Please keep the applications to join us coming... Let's really make this an event to celebrate all things S-type!

We're now at over 110 cars and around 200 people! What a great celebration of 20 years of S-type. Thanks for all your support, guys.

In the afternoon, the drive we are going on is being written by Howard Hunt. It was he, who twenty years ago devised the driving route in Biarritz for the press launch!

We will have to draw the list to a close soon. If you've not put your name down, but would like to join us please get in touch soon: stype.jec@gmail.com

Afternoon,

We had a great day at Jaguar Classic Works on the 20th of October. We had 150 cars from the JEC, with over 120 S-types.
There will be an article and photos in December's Jaguar Enthusiast, but in the meantime I thought you may like to see some photos on the forum here.

Pictures are superb Gordon, congratulations to you for organising a fantastic full on and probably a wee bit stressful day.

I was going to leave a comment last week after you posted, however I thought I would leave it to those that attended to perhaps come on here first and say how the day went for them, maybe even post a few pictures of the Cars, the Classic Works, the Road Run or the Lunch venue..oh well I was wrong :(

For those who were at the 20th Anniversary Celebration, you may have noticed the coverage in last month's (January edition) Jaguar World.

There is a further article in this month's Modern Classics(February) - a good magazine well worth a read at the best of times.

See below...
