Electrical Gremlins

I purchased this car as a sort of hobby car last November

I have dealt with all issues that where brought to light by use experience and MOT's

What I am left with are in my opinion four problems that could all result from a new battery that was fitted prior to my ownership

Because of real life getting in the way it is not possible to check or research the cars history in any meaningful way

So I am trying to resolve these matters from where I am today

The problems are:-

1. The rear passenger windows do work as they are supposed They occasionally work up in small steps The only solution appears to be to disconnect the battery Reconnect the battery Raise windows and press the child lock to isolate rear window switches

2. The A/C will not blow cold air The system has been recharged and is still charged I have tried the fix shown on YouTube but no luck

3. Drivers door lock does not from the fob All doors do and the alarm is set and responds to fob Also the rear passenger door is deadlocked and won't open Also the locking once moving seems not to work or has been immobilised

So' although I said four I seemed to have lumped the security problems in item three

The entire canbus and fault system has been read and reset and is due to go back to be reread to so if there are any clues on the system which might give some ideas

As I said at the beginning intuition says the new battery could explain the above

The guys working on the car are very experienced with Bosch but there appears to be a blank from factory settings or programming of units carried out by Jaguar the car is 18 years old with very low mileage but the plastics and electrical connections are obviously showing their age

The vehicle is a 3.0 litre X-type SE 2001

I have found factory reset procedures for all my ails and am hopeful of a successful outcome

Again apologise for the omission

Perhaps I am not safe to be left alone

Hi Richard, I can't help much technically about the X Type although I'm sure some ideas will come forward.

Certainly adding a signature can help others as things vary with date of manufacture and engine, just go to the User Panel and add one then it will appear under every post. The forum can take a while to get used to but we are here to help. I know Frank was being helpful although I had to smile that he also doesn't have a signature. Maybe its a facility only available to paid members of the JEC.

If the fob operates 3 of 4 doors then the first thing is to lubricate and repeatedly operate the one that does not operate, as that must be a mechanical issue I think? Regarding a/c I would take to a specialist, could be faulty component, eg compressor? The windows issue... no idea, sorry!
