Hi,
I'm doing an IRS rebuild on my 62 OTS and have found that one of the hub carriers is damaged beyond repair. Please does anyone know where I might find a replacement ?
Cheers,
Neil
62 E-Type Hub Carrier wanted
Re: 62 E-Type Hub Carrier wanted
Hi Neil,
Just sat here pondering. The new IRS was introduced with the E in about 1961 but also used on just about every thing else at the time. Mk 10, first S types, then of course XJ Series.
I know that the track varied on different models and this is reflected in drive shaft and lower arm length. So the question is, are all the hub carriers the same?
I would put money on it that, yes they are all the same. Just how much money I'm not sure!
The point being that if they are the same it lets you off the hook of being restricted to just an E type hub
Doubtless our E type experts will soon put us right
Hope that helps - just a little

Hi Oldtimer,
Thanks for the info. I've looked at some of the other Jag options of similar age but they all seem to differ a little. Fingers crossed that something will turn up at Stoneleigh.
Regards,
Neil

Hi Neil,
I 've just checked through six Parts Catalogues these being :-
S1 XJ S2 XJ S3 XJ XJS 3.6 XJS V12 and Limo
They all use Hub Carrier Part Number C 26699
Although I have Workshop Manuals for earlier vehicle I don't have Parts Manuals so I suggest you phone say SNG Barrett and ask them for the E type Part Number.
Without confirming where the difference is how would you know what you are picking up at Stoneleigh!
I'm sure somebody out there has the imformation.
Do let us know how you get on

I managed to get a brand new pair of these some years back , and was saving them for my own project,
the trouble is, that they are NOT drilled for ABS sensors, and so i would need to modify them for my own use , i suspect they are for earlier cars like yours
they are brand new old stock and would cost nearly a grand including VAT from Jaguar , as they still list them as in stock ,

Hi Oldtimer,
Thanks for your comments. You reminded me that I had a parts list on DVD which I just checked out. The part number is C20811. They're quite distinguishable from others so I'm sure I'd recognise one if I saw it at Stoneleigh. I also had an email from somebody to tell me there are some brand new ones available now although this would cost me just shy of £800 as I'd need to buy a pair - but at least this gives me a back-up solution if all other options fail.
Regards,
Neil

Hi Neil,
I find it quite intriguing the way in which these threads slowly pull out little pearls of wisdom.
In the dim and distant paste I have rebuilt a number of these hubs and I'm blowed if I can remember any differences. In later years I have found that knowledge is like lino, it rolls up behind you!
Part Numbers are drawing numbers so for me it would be interesting to pull the drawings and examine the differences, regrettably a facility no longer available to me.
Brake buster , you say, the hubs you have are not drilled to take ABS sensers, did'nt know the last of the XJS's even had ABS, we live and learn
Neil, when you do eventually resolve this , do let us all know

Try Ken Jenkins for a used one - he has a large hangar size building full of stuff.

Thanks Paul. Tried Ken but he has none
Re: 62 E-Type Hub Carrier wanted
Well I never. I contacted a chap on Ebay who was selling hub carriers from other 60s Jaguars & explained what I was after. He replied to say he'd had this one hub sitting around in a stillage that he didn't recognise. He sent me a photo & guess what ?
Yes, that's right, bingo !!!
It looks a bit rough but he assures me that all the important areas are sound & all it needs is a clean up. Fingers crossed.
Thanks all for advice, etc.

Neil

Re: 62 E-Type Hub Carrier wanted
It has an open back as the 62 model had no UJ shield on halfshaft (later models had UJ shield which sat inside the circular rear webs of the carrier) & 62 also had less cutaway on rear webs to give the carrier extra strength over the original carriers.
Re: 62 E-Type Hub Carrier wanted
Well done 62e, just need to get it in your stickly little fingers now hope the rest goes OK
