I've just bought a S2 E-Type fitted with very nice fairly new MWS 6.5 inch, curly hub, centre laced chrome wheels and brand new tubeless 205/70VR15 tyres, Pirelli P4000 on the back and Vredestein on the front.
However I've a hankering to get back to standard 5 inch wheels and 185VR15 tyres.
Does anyone out there have a set of nice chrome standard wheels and fancy doing a swap (with cash adjustment as appropriate)?
Obviously I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone interested in either buying or selling.
Thanks, David.

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
I want a set of 6.5 inch wires for my Series 1 project! Curly hub is perfect. How good are they?
Unfortunately, I only have a set of 5 standard 5" chrome wires that I think it left the factory on in 1962, so they are pretty ratty. They too are curly hub but I expect you would want flat hub for a series 2, wouldn't you?
Regards

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Hi suarthardy,
You are right, I am going for originality so I would want flat hub wheels and in fairly immaculate condition. It probably makes sense to leave this thread running for a while to see if anything turns up.
However, if not I would then be interested in selling my wheels. I've uploaded a photo which is probably too small to show very much, but they are very smart wheels. They aren't absolutely like new if you get down on your knees to examine them, but I would describe the chrome as being in very good condition.
If you bought new, the price of each wheel would be £333.54 and tyres this size are in the £200 to £300 range, so say £580 for a wheel and tyre. I'd probably be willing to sell for £400 each which is about 25% off.

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
I also have recently bought a s2 e-type with original wire wheels on in good condition and want to put wider ones on
Think they are flat hub with a 3 ear spinner
Any interest ?
happy to swap photos etc to see if they are what you are looking for
Do the 6.5 wires fit and can you get the rears off without deflating the tyre?

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Hello Reg
Since my original post I had a change of plan and ended up buying a replica set of the "Dunlop" D-type racing alloys. Not exactly original for a S2 E-type but I saw some on another car and liked the look! I was able to use my existing tyres on these wheels, so now I just have the set of 6.5 inch chrome wires to sell without tyres. Are you interested?
In answer to your questions: yes they fit nicely, with just enough clearance between the tyres and the rear wheelarches. They look good because they fill the wheelarches so well. But you do need to deflate the rear tyres in order to slide the wheels on or off the splines

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Hi David
Yes they do look nice but not sure whether to go for the 6 or 6.5 inch as I think you can get the 6 inch off without deflating
How much will you want for the 4 wheels (and spinners ?) you have for sale
If interested where are you located - I am not far from NEC
Regards

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Dear DHT
(Sorry, I'm confused about your name!)
My 6.5 inch wheels are made by MWS, model number XW5738. They have stainless steel spokes and are the latest version which doesn't need an inner tube i.e. can be used with tubeless tyres.
They have the centre-laced spoke layout, which I guess you know means that the outer ends of the spokes are along the centre line of the wheel, leaving the rims looking much less cluttered and also easier to clean than the 6 inch wheels which have a standard spoke pattern.
The new price from MWS is £333.54 each for them (inc VAT).
I shall ask £175 each (£700 for the set of 4, no offers).
I wasn't planning on selling any spinners as I am using them for my new wheels - but do you really have a set of 3-eared spinners?? If so and they are in decent condition I would be interested in swapping you my 2-eared spinners for them, as 3-eared is the "right" type of spinner for my design of wheels. Could you upload a photo?
I live in Hampshire but on a good day that is only a bit over 2 hours driving from the NEC - or perhaps I could meet you halfway in exchange for a small contribution towards petrol costs.
Regards, David.

David
Sorry about name confusion - should have said regards but something went wrong
On basis wheels are in good condition I would like to proceed with buying them
- we need to find how/where we can meet to complete the sale
I assume that if I had the rear arch lips rolled they then should come off - or is it too tight?
On spinners I have been looking on web sites and I think mine are continental ones not 3 ear ones so I assume of no interest to you
email me ideas of how to meet - davidtidmarsh@tiscali.co.uk

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Hi David
I too was interested in your wheels but your initial asking price was too much.
Could be interested now your price has moderated. What type of spare do you have?

Re: Chrome Wheels swap?
Hi Stuart
I didn't realise you were still around!
Just to be entirely clear, the difference in asking price is that previously it included tyres, now it doesn't.
However, if you are interested and/or DHT changes his mind, whereabouts in the country are you located?
Cheers, David17SR
