My series 3 V12 is having some minor repair work done to the front end of the engine and whilst the radiator and cooling system is removed the engineers have ask me if i would like to swap to a new aluminium radiator with accompanying upgraded fans etc. The previous owner of the car had commissioned Jaguar Land Rover to rebuild the old radiator and upgrade to a "high performance core" which includes a double fan installation. This work was done in 2018 and the car has done 3500 miles since then and I had not had previous issues with overheating, although the car does run hot but the needle on the temperature gauge has hardly passed the "L" in NORMAL.
Is the replacement that is suggested a worthwhile investment considering I plan to keep the car for some years to come and also hope to tour a
little?
Thanks in advance
Colin
Aluminium radiator replacement ?
Re: Aluminium radiator replacement ?
Coiln,
Personally I wouldn't bother. There are a lot of cheap ali radiators on the market which can be prone to leaks.
If you've got a new rad with an improved core fitted with dual fans (assume they are electric?) then I think you've got a good setup. Just regularly change the ccolant and I reckon you're good for very many years.
The only other thing you might want to do is check the condition of all the hoses (assuming they weren't all changed when the rad was replaced?) and update accordingly.
Good luck
Paul
