Just a heads up really if you need to remove the water pump the workshop manual is not very helpful and over simplifies!
Basically you need to be aware that the pump has a backplate which needs to be removed with the pump otherwise it will get bent. There are 11 studs around the perimeter of the pump to remove including those holding on the power steering pump bracket. However you need to be aware that a further 5 studs need to be removed at the right hand side where the backplate extends near the alternator. 2 of these studs go through the alternator mounting bracket which once the studs are removed needs to be loosened off and moved away from the backplate the edge of which is sandwiched between the bracket and the engine. The alternator bracket is held by 4 studs into the RHS of the engine, loosen these most of the way out to allow the backplate clearance.
Do not try to split the pump from the backplate as the impellor will not pass through and the backplate which is quite thin will get bent and will probably be refused as a refurb return. Had me baffled for a while so thought I would share,
Cheers,
Jim
