Electronic fuel pump

Hi chaps,

My car had stuttered to a halt a couple of times last year, clearly fuel starvation, but started again almost immediately. As I've only a single garage up a slope at the end of a narrow driveway, I took it to my local place, Sanspeed in Bexleyheath, 'cos I have a fear of 46 year old things shearing off and stranding me...... They blew things through but couldn't find anything - didn't take the fuel pump to bits but suggested it may be playing up.

I took the car out 5 or 6 times after that with no trouble, so began to think it must have been some crap blocking something, but bought an AZX1308 electronic fuel pump from SNGBARRATT for £75 plus, which I thought I'd get fitted next time I needed some work done, as it's buried in the rear wing and looked a right fiddly job! However, I went to start it the other day and no ticking from the pump...... So there I was having to DIY after all!

I was right about how fiddly it was and not kind to your back, but quite a straightforward replacement really. And what a difference it's made to starting! The old one must have been struggling for a long time, this is almost a revelation!

The only thing I came across was that the old banjos had metal washers either side, but the new pump has O rings set into the body, so I phoned Burlens and they said no washer is needed as the O ring does the job, with a fibre washer the other side.

Anyway, I heartily recommend the upgrade!
