Direction Indicator switch

My early E type FHC, 1961, has a broken column direction indicator switch. It is a common problem as the white plastic/nylon part wears out and breaks. You can buy, from SNGB and probably others just this white piece but it is a devil of a job and you might die first. On top of that the one I did was a very poor fit and I could not get it to work. Buying a new retro unit is hardly any better as I have had two, both of which had severe quality issues. The part number is C21710. Jaguar, back in the day, knew that it was a poor product and quickly changed the unit to one much like the switch on the Mk2 cars. Heavens know why they did not start with the improved switch, C25254. As best as I can find out, having spoken to Ken Jenkins and SNGB it should be a simple change with similar fittings. Can anyone confirm it is a simple substitution?
