Fluctuating rev counter

Postby Azzura » Sun Sep 03, 2017 9:24 pm

Series 2 - 4.2 - The pointer on my rev counter is not at all steady, bouncing up and down quite a bit. I have changed the points and condenser and cleaned all the electrical connections and checked that the rev counter case is earthed. Any ideas what the issue may be?

If it is a faulty unit does anyone repair them.

Hello Azzura,

doesn't the E Type use a camshaft driven generator like other models. Sometimes the drive dog get worn so does not give a constant drive. It is fitted art the end of the exhaust camshaft (near the bulkhead)

There is an article in the recent JEC mag detailing work on the E type tachometer which could be worth a look at.

Hello Azzura,

also check the terminations on the generator and the tachometer.
