Clear coat or not?

Does any one know if jaguar clear coated the e type in 1972. It's my understanding that this only became the norm in the 1980,s. My sable brown e when being cut does not give up any coloured pigments onto the cutting pad. That makes me think that it has a clear coat but it's I was told that the car has never been re sprayed other than one panel!

No clear coat or two pack in 73. Metallic was available.
