When was the flat floor discontinued?

Postby Mk2600FGJ » Fri Jun 18, 2010 12:05 am

Hello all, i have been surprised to find my recently purchased first e type a late series 1 or to some 1 1/4 or is it 1 1/2 it has an origional flat floor with broad ribs going from side to center ( 8 on front and 4 on rear floor section ) definitely no suggestion of any foot well. Why the surprise one might ask, it is because it is a 2+2 AND an automatic !.
I did say i am new to e type ownership but everything i have read on the model suggests the flat floor was long gone before my 1967 rolled out of Browns Lane.
I have an SNG Barratt parts catalogue and can not find a replacement front floor section for a flat floor 4.2 auto. Only the all manual 3.8Ltr. My car came with a new boxed pair on SNG front floor sections which have a distinct well in them. They are also a full 6" short from center box section to bulkhead. ANY OFFERS?
For anyone with chassis / build dates my car is an all matching numbers car with 80224 miles covered.
Chassis number is 1E77345BW . Body No. 4E 53207. Auto Tran. 19583 and Engine No. 7E 53201-9 ( same on cyl. head ).
I will greatly appreciate if anyone can tell me if this is a rare or very rare model. Plans to convert to manual drive and LHD to RHD are now on hold until i find out more.
I look forward to your response.
Eugene ( Mk 2 600 FGJ ).

Eugene,

Unfortunately your car is not rare at all 2+2's are totally different to other E-Types and the flat floor as you call it is correct. I think the S3's also have a flat floor.
The flat floor was discontinued early 1962. Mine is a November 1961 build and has the flat floor and straight rear bulkhead.

Hello Dave, thanks for enlightening me on the floor issue.
My 34" front floor is so different from the shorter SNG BARRATT 28" reair panel with pronounced well i had to ask the question. I did say i am new to the e type hence my ignorance on the subject. No doubt, i shall get to know more as time passes.
If in trouble i shall be posting my ?? on the forum if not answered elsewhere.
Regards
Eugene.

Yip,

Just popping in for a look at what goes on on your BB.

Thought this might be of interest to those of you following this floor pan topic.

? MY FLAT FLOOR 1967 E TYPE

Postby Mk2600FGJ » Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:24 pm

Hi all, today i rang SNG Barratt to ? replacement of front floor section.
I told them i bought an abandoned resto (health reasons) which included two front repair sections which were purchased from them but were different to my originals. We concluded the best approach would be for me to forward pics. of the floor to them. They believed the new sections i had with a pronounced well in them are correct for the car.
As i will be replacing like with like the well type sections are for sale, with 2 coats of silver finnegans on both sides.

Will someone please advise me on how to put pics of my floor for the benefit of forum users to make their comments.
Regards
Eugene.

Hi Eugene

You seem to be struggling with these floor panels and I'm not sure you're getting the best advice.

It is probably best that you treat the E type fhc and the 2+2 as completely different models. It sounds to me that you have been supplied with floors for a fhc rather than for a 2+2, which has a 9" longer wheelbase and therefore longer floors.

I suggest that you talk to Martin Robey or download their E-Type catalogue in pdf format. The catalogue has excellent exploded views of the bodywork so you can see what the panels look like. This should give you the correct part numbers you need to sort this out. You might even find that Robey's are cheaper than Barratts. Sometimes they are.

I hope yopu get this sorted soon. Good luck.

SELLING NEW FLOOR SECTIONS.

Postby Mk2600FGJ » Mon Aug 02, 2010 10:45 pm

As mentioned earlier i have 2 NEW FRONT FLOOR SECTIONS FOR SALE FOR AN E TYPE.
Will sell as pair at £80 or single at £40 each + p&p.
This is half the price they cost from SNG Barratt.
They now have 2 full coats of Finnegans smooth Hammeright on both sides.

THESE PANELS HAVE A PRONOUNCED FOOT WELL.

Had hoped to put a pic of them on but can not find the avenue to navigate the system to put them on.
Can this be remedied to make it easier for us silver surfers?

I shall have to call on my son to sort it out for me.

Eugene. (Mk2 600 FGJ)
