fitting rear bumper and new seal

Postby bigcat1 » Mon Dec 21, 2009 10:11 pm

I'm trying to refit a rear bumper and new body seal to a series three roadster. Having an initial 'go' at fitting it, I find it very difficult to get it all lined up such that the seal is an even fit between the body of the car and the bumper. Theres either a small gap in some places or the seal is so tight that its pushed over.

Does anyone have a 'clever' way of getting the bumper evenly lined up or is it just a case of endless fiddling until a reasonable compromise is found?

The very brief entry in the service manual refers to using 'petroleum based adhesive' to fix the seal to the bumper. Can anyone recommend a modern equivalent?

Merry Christmas!

Have you tried shimming it between the fixings and the body, if this doesn't work you may have to grind some metal off the edges were it is tight and then have the bumper re-chromed.
