Pedalbox

Postby deWaanzinnige » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:05 pm

Hello,

I'm restoring my pedal box, but don't know what comes between the cylinder's and the box itself?
Is it just bolt on metal to metal or has there be a gasket or something else between them?

Thanks and regards

Hello De Waanzinnige,

although not having specific E Type experience, my general experience with a variety of cars, none have had a gasket in that position, the cylinder being bolted up metal to metal.
If you are doing a concours rebuild or indeed just to a high standard there is some merit in using a dense fibre gasket as this would, I think, help preserve the paintwork. Generally when cylinders are removed the paint usually comes with it so causing further deterioration and spoils the general appearance.

Yes there are gaskets where everything goes thro the bulkhead on all e types. They are readily available from all normal suppliers. Ian

Hi Alec and Ian,

Thanks for your reply.
In the first place it wasn't planned to be a high standard rebuild but now in the process I changed my mind.
Contacted some suppliers to order a fibre casket.

Thanks and regards, Marcel de Rooij
