Engine Miss-fire
Engine missfires. Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition and and Pertronix Coil fitted some 6 years ago and has ran okay until now. 4.2 litre 6cyl engine now missfires at 2500 RPM when hot. Using Lucas 22D Distributor. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it might be?
Re: Engine Miss-fire
Hello Mr C,
I would have a look at the plugs, both for their condition and clues regarding mixture strength. One of the much quoted advantages of electronic ignition is that it is 'fit and forget', but plugs wear out and distributors still need maintenance albeit just a couple of drops of oil on the mechanism and to verify the vacuum advance works.
Some more history would also help in a diagnoses?

Thanks for your reply Alex,
Checked the gaps and cleaned the spark plugs. Back two seemed to be running a bit rich but the one thing I did find was that the Carb dash pots were nearly out of oil. Topped these up and took it for a test drive today and all seems okay so far. No more missfiring. Hopefully that was it.
