Well ! the drive to Coventry transport museum did not last long, we got about 5 miles and thew car stalled and would not start.
I had not tools ect with me so had to call the RAC. I was in the car for 5 hours waiting for them to arrive.
Once he arrived we soon found out that the coil did not have a 12v feed to it, it was also very hot !!
After checking wires were on properly and the ignition amp was earthed ok we suddenly got the car running.
Then it conked out again, the RAC man did not know what he had done because he had done nothing, we got it going again and I said I will make a run for home, he said he would follow me back home, we got a mile or so down the road and the car conked but I managed to roll it the rest of the way. Determined to get to Coventry we jumped into the shadow two and drove off 6.5 hours late !!
We made it to the JEC show on Saturday with the only non jag there !!
This Saturday (14th June) I had a look to see if I could find the problem, SNG Barrett had sent me a trouble shooting list to go through which I started to follow, whilst doing this I saw a spark on the coil, I switched off the ignition and had a closer look but could not see where the spark was coming from, i switched the ignition back on and started wiggling the wires on the coil, and there it was !!! the spark !!
The spark was cause by the choke cable resting on the coil male connections on the back of the coil, it was shorting out causing the coil to stopo working, this was also causing the coil to overheat !!! Because the garage was darker I managed to spot a small spark in the engine bay and solve the problem, sometimes it can be a simple thing that puts a spanner in the works.
I have now done another hundred miles with no problem and of course, re-routed the choke cable. The car is once again running great and hopefully I will make it to the next JEC meet.
