Intermediate timing sprocket shaft retaining pin

Hello everyone.
I am in the assembly stage of my 4.2 litre e-type engine… I note that the intermediate sprocket shaft has a hole on both ends that may line up with holes in the block and timing chain support.
Is there a pin that is supposed to be used here? On one or both ends? it did not come out with one.
If there is no pin should the holes in the shaft be lined up with the holes in the block and front cover
If there is no issue with lining up these holes how does oil get inside the shaft.
Any help/advice welcome.
