spin off oil filter kit / SNG

Postby graham59 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:53 pm

Good evening

Has anyone any experience of the spin off oil filter kit supplied by SNG ?
I have recently purchased one as I have difficulty in finding a felt replacement oil filter; SNG dont stock these.

Is there any adverse effect by adding this conversion?
i.e pressure build up ?
increase in oil temperature ?
Is this easy to fit as the housing appears to left attached to engine ?

Regards
Graham

Graham,

I don't know about the SNGB one but the Rob Beere (£50) one which I bet is exactly or very near the same works perfectly.
If you experience any of the symptoms you have written then there is something wrong somewhere.

Dead easy to fit and you can then buy a better filter and never worry about about nipping the O ring again. that happened to me once when I had a TR7 I wrecked the engine after leaving a trail of oil up the road.

SNG Barratt Oil Filter Conversion

Postby duncan234 » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:55 pm

I have had one of these conversions fitted to my car for some time now and the only problems I have encountered is obtaining a replacement cartridge of the make and type originally supplied. This was a Crosland 529/1 which incorporates a diaphragm that retains the oil in the filter when the engine is turned off. This allows pressure to be reinstated immediately the engine is restarted. Some types of filter do not incorporate this feature.
I have recently fitted a FRAM Type 2857A filter obtained from a local motor factor and this appears to do all that the Crosland filter did. According to the FRAM blurb in the dealer`s catalogue, this type of filter incorporates a relief valve to prevent pressure build up.

If fitting this type of conversions it helps to temporarily thread a locknut onto the threaded spigot so that this can be tightened up in the housing.

Oil Filter head

Personally I would fit a filter head from a later model XJ, you will get the same result and oem quality at probably less cost

Best of luck
