How old is an E Type driver?

It appears there is a technical issue with the E Type Forum (see technical issues/about BB/E Type Forum) in that the E Type forum is too quiet. A possible reason that has been suggested is that we're all too old and can't use technology!

So lets get a thread up and running to see what the average age of an E Type owner is and at what age we bought our E's. I will kick it off having just had my 54th birthday and I bought my E when I was 53.

If there are no answers to this thread we must assume all the owners are dead or in old peoples homes and there are a lot of E's to be found in barns!

After 40 years wanting one I got lucky with some privatised utility shares (thanks to Maggie Thatcher) and bought my 1972 Series 3 Roadster off ebay aged 57; 5 years & 17,000 miles later I'm still realising my dream.

Bought mine aged 40 and been restoring it for the last 10 years. Born the same year as the E-Type was launched, so we're obviously soul mates.

Mine will be seen on the road later this year and will celebrate its 50th Birthday on December 28th this year. I am getting rather excited.

Most E-Type owners seem to be of a certain age due to affordability issue, unless you are a young successful business man or you have been lucky with inheritance. I was age 55 when I bought my E-Type. I think the younger element like and admire E-Types but they probably would want to own one, they would usually go for something more modern. I bought my E-Type in 1999 with cash from the inheritance route and whilst perfectly drivable, I proceeded to carry out a rolling restoration and finally finished (if you can say you ever finish a classic car) in 2007. Some members may have seen a Opelescent Golden Sand Series 1 fhc on the stand at the NEC last year, well that was mine.

I am 58 and had my first E Type at age 18, (PNK299D) I have had at least 1 E Type ever since, although they might have been in tea chests for some of my ownership.

Currently got my XKER, having just sold my Lightweight replica, (also got a Vanquish and a 400bhp Mk1 2 door cortina).

So far we all seem to be in our 50's; to have an E (in some shape or form) for 40 years is pretty good going Pat! I am (although not in the trade) a bit of a petrol head having done the AM's, big Merc's, meaty BMW's to name a few, but the E has put the biggest smile on my face, especially when watching those dads admiring with their young sons who are possibly the next generation of owners

Hi - 57 me. You may laugh, but I saw an episode of Wheeler Dealers last year when they did up a Series 3 and that made me realise I might actually be able to afford one. Of course after looking around and doing some research I came across my Series 1 2+2 which cost a wee bit more!! I'm naturally having to spend a bit and gradually give it the TLC it had been lacking for the past few years, but what a thoroughly enjoyable experience!

I took it to the Bromley Pageant last weekend - had a ball and some very nice comments. Should have bought one years ago!

Pat. That 400 bhp 'tina has got my attention. I want to stick a 302 V8 in a Mk2 Cortina but I don't have either the engine or the car at the moment. Too many other projects on the go.

How about some pictures of that Mk1? Stick a leaper on the bonnet and nobody will notice.

If you go to my website its on there in build. At present building the shell with additional strengthening, none of which will be seen. Looking to have the car as standard as possible, visually. Engine is a Ford Motorsport cosworth with large turbo, green injectors etc etc running a 5 speed tremec and uprated axle, with disc's front and rear. Enough no Jaguar on here I will close before being told off.

I can claim to be the oldest so far at 66. I'm old enough to remember wanting a E-Type back in the sixties but had no money to buy one.
I currently have a 1967 Series 1 4.2 L Roadster in Carmine red, my birthday present to myself on my 60th birthday.

Lovely car Pat. You, like the rest of us E-Type owners, are very lucky.

I'm confused about the colour. My car left the factory in Carmen Red. I know there was a Carmine Red but I'm not sure it was a Jaguar colour (though I think it was a BL colour). Maybe this is just a typing error.

Having just checked Philip Porter's book on E-Types I can confirm the factory colour as Carmen Red.

Pedantic maybe, but Carmine Red, to my memory was more toward the maroon than the scarlet side.

Either way ,your car is an absolute stunner.
