Can anyone recommend someone who specialises in these or maybe a point of contact?
I have seen an advert somewhere for these but can't find one in the JEC mag.

There's a guy advertises in the club mag services section. Claims to have 30 plus years experience. I'm not near any copies at the moment but I'm sure you'll have some kicking about. Have a look, he's usually towards to end of the small ads.
Does your car have one fitted?

Dave/Stuart,
I searched the web and found plenty of suppliers etc but I wanted someone who had experience of fitting them on E-Types.
Stuart I have seen that advert a 1000 times of course when you are looking specifically for it you can't find it however you're right there is an ad in the services section.
Peter Harvey is his name.
I have a S1 convertible so don't need one its for a friend of mine.
Dave, still struggling with the windjammer, I have the design and know exactly how its going to look etc but I am now stuck on the material again. The fly screen fabric is OK but I am now looking at using speaker mesh which will let less air through and look a whole lot better. I bought some off ebay but like most of the stuff you buy from there it ends up in the bin. I need to find a lightweight stretchy see through material. I have some places I am going the phone tomorrow.
I hope to have some made up before you go to Spa so you can give it a good test drive. I notice you are going via Luxembourg so when do you leave the UK? it gives me a date to work too.

Dave,
We are shipping out, literally, on the 17th. It's an 1100 mile round trip so we can test it to destruction

I was in the garage yesterday and grabbed a back issue of JE. The number you want for Peter Harvey is 01304 614412 or 07956 292376.
Subjective thing the Webasto. I think they're okay but not in an E-Type. There are a lot of myths around that cars left the factory with them but they apparently never did.
Is it you (Dave K) that does the exhaust heat shields? Need to start thinking about these for my project. Drive train is going back in during September.

I had a Webasto installed by Peter into my V12 2+2, he did an outstanding job, travelled to my location and completed the work in 2 days at a reasonable cost. No relation or personal connection just a satisfied customer. You can see his work on my web site

Hi Dave
I have a Series 1 3.8 FHC and am on a roll at the moment after a few years with the project on hold. Stoneleigh might be soon enough for me.
What are the benefits of your heat shields over the standard (reproduction) items? What is the price?
I am just getting around to re-installing the rear suspension (series 2 brakes). This should be completed this coming week. Then its the engine and box. Engine built by Rob Beere and T5 gearbox kit from Derek Watson.
I thought I had everything until it came to the crunch and then you realise that all the nuts and bolts and bits of brackets are missing. This is what happens when you take on a project that was started by someone else, I suppose. I could do with finding drawings or sketches of things like the clutch pipe brackets on the engine and bulkhead. I am loathe to pay the sort of money that the 'specialists' ask for these sorts of things.
Still, it will all be worth it in the end. Hope to have it on the road next year if I can afford the interior re-trim.
Also, have you noticed how all the restoration guides skirt around issues such as wiring and harness installations? Also, how these issues, which are clearly problems for the majority of owners and restorers, never seem to be covered in the club mag? Food for thought.

Stuart,
You are right about the resto articles I think the reason they don't show the wiring install in detail is the restorers farm it out because it takes to long to do, once you have done your first car you'll know exactly how the next one goes in
There are a couple of benefits of fitting my heat shields over the usual suppliers the first and best is reason is they are about 2/3 the price.
They are made from 316 st. st all of it including the brackets and bolt so will not only last forever but will look good forever, not a good selling point really since the original ones are made from aluminium and will also virtually last forever.
I don't know what material they use for their insulation but mine is a ceramic sheet 6mm thick and it will withstand temps up to 1200 degrees C.
Mine are £50 for the set the last time I checked about 8 years ago one supplier was selling a pair for £75 plus VAT I think and exorbitant shipping costs.
I also provide the water pump return pipes they go under the carbs and the rad stone shield. I sometimes make the bulkhead heater pipes in st. st but they are hard work and for the price I charged not worth the effort.
You will certainly be happy with your Rob Beere engine, I rebuilt my own engine but took it up there about 2 years ago and they did a great job on it. I was at their place today picking up some stuff. It baffles me as to why more people don't use them to be honest all the stuff they sell is top quality and although it may cost slightly more it fits and does what its supposed to do plus they both have a wealth of knowledge about E-Types.
As for brackets etc if you need any photos as to locations of these then let me know or contact me off list and I will give you my phone number and tell you exactly where things go. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago and its frustrating to say the least not having another car to look at or someone to talk to.
Where are you located roughly?

Hi Dave
I am in Whitchurch, Shropshire.
I think I'll have a set of heat shields off you. Probably the rad stone shield too. Will firm up closer to Stoneleigh.
I have fitted the bulkhead water pipes. They actually came with the car when I bought it but are copper, they fit well though. I think the cars originally used mild steel ones, dumb really.
I was at Derek Watson's a couple of weeks ago and they were re-assembling an S1 Coupe. I was prepared to take lots of photographs but the camera batteries died. Typical. Anything you can provide would be welcomed.
Really need to know the correct locations where the wiring passes through the bulkhead, especially the brake fluid and tachometer wiring.
Right now I could really use a good set of handbrake calipers. Mine need pins drilling out and new cover plates, which I don't think are available. Looks like rear suspension won't be in for a while yet.
