Nuts, Bolts and Screws etc.

Postby stuarthardy » Mon May 04, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi everyone

Just coming back to rebuilding my 1962 3.8 FHC after a 4 year hiatus and having to re-learn everything.

Does anybody have knowledge of the coding system used by Jaguar for all their nuts, bolts and screws and so on?

The reason for this enquiry is that I don't want to pay Jaguar Parts Suppliers' prices for basic items such as these that can easily be picked up from fastener manufacturers.

I am keen to use sensibly authentic fasteners, without being too precious about it.

Right now I need engine to gearbox/bell housing fixings, as well as self tapping screws for fuel and brake line clips.

Regards
Stuart

UCS UNC Set Screw
UFB UNF Bolt
UFN UNF Nut
UFS UNF Set Screw

119 = 3/16
125 = 1/4
131 = 5/16
137 = 3/8
143 = 7/16
150 = 1/2

The length is measured in 1/8 ths
2 = 1/4

3 = 3/8
4 =1/2
5 = 5/8
6 = 3/4
8 =1.0
and so on

eg UFB137/11 is UNF bolt 3/8 unf x 1 3/8 long

That's great, thanks.

However, what happens when it comes to self tappers and sheet metal screws? Does anybody know whether they are coded in any significant way?

Thanks
Stuart
