E type steering wheels

I am having to replace the wood rim on my wheel but I am unsure what kind of wood was used for them. Anyone know please?

It might be Beech and I belive made by Coventry Timber Bending Co.

I met a guy at Stoneleigh a little while ago who did steering wheel reconditioning to a very high standard. He also sold the woodrim for you to do it yourself, in both the single and two piece types. I've lost his details but he must be out there somewhere.

I also got a quote from London Carriage Craft who, despite their upmarket clientele, are quite competitive.

I'll keep looking for those other details.

I've found the details I was talking about. I think it was a father and son arrangement where the son did steering wheels and the father did other wooden things.

I don't know whether they are still in business but I have kept their info for when I get around to reconditioning my wheel.

The son's name is Nick Reeves and he goes by the name of Classic Woodwork while the father is Colin Reeves and goes by the name of Classic Veneers. They were/are based in Solihull and the number I have is 0121 733 6898 or 07976 877908.

I'm sure they also supplied the timber rings for DIY. If I remember correctly they were mahogany.

I used the same company about 10 years ago and they did a great job the wheel still looks like new. I think mine cost me £95 at the time that included polishing the ali as well.

I had a series 2 wheel renovated by the Solihull company 10 years ago, great job, still looks like it has just been done.

I replaced the wood rim on my car. The wood was advertised on ebay. It cost £44 + 4.60pp. The sellers email is nfreeves@btinternet.com
I can recommend him.
