Bodywork.

I have recently purchased a 2002 X type. I am interested to know about any RUST problems that any members may have had?. The bodywork on my car is very good, but I do not have a garage and the car will be used all year. Is it worth having it treated?.
Re: Bodywork.
Hi, I am not aware of any particular problems of rust on these cars,
If you let me know the year and the model, I will investigate and get back to you.
Just to remind you that we have an X TYPE seminar on the 27th of November and you can meet lot's of x type owners and find out much more about your model.

Major corrosion issues on modern Jaguars don`t seem to be a big issue. They seem confined mostly to small problems around windows and bonnet seams on an X.
Jaguar would appear to have their finishing techniques well sorted. However, as with any product of this nature there are always exceptions to the rule. Quality control can sometimes slip.
The best course of action would be to inspect and rectify defects on an individual basis. Cars all operate under different conditions with differing standards of maintenance being applied to each individual car. There is no substitute for Mark 1 eyeball and carefull inspection.
Most major problems areas will in all probability be under chassis areas. Vehicles will be best inspected upon a garage ramp. Use of a torch, mirror and an inquiring mind will reveal most (if any) problems.
Let`s think back to the 1960`s when cars were very poorly built and paintwork, under chassis finish and general construction was often nothing short of appalling. Remember the Vauhall Viva. One of those dreadful cars could rot out in less than three years. Thankfully we don`t have those problems anymore.
Trot off to a car breakers nowadays and you will find cars being scrapped that appear in great bodily shape. The structure of a vehicle now out lives mechanical components which fail long before the body gives up the ghost.
I think Jaguar have corrosion issues well under control. Take a look at some 02 model or newer Mercs. You may be quite suprized at what you see.
Hope this helps.
