as my 54 X-type has already got a Witter detachable tow bar, i thought i would collect it Saturday morning, thats when the troubles started
the simple ten second fitting of the detachable tow bar hook took me nearly two hours,and for the life of me i couldn't figure out why it wouldn't fit, it even looked brand new and as if it had never been used ??
after a long time searching the net for ' instructions ' , i know i know, i have built a whole car, but i have man flue atm , lol , i found how simple it was to fit said tow bar, but no , not on my car, then it dawned on me
IT WAS UPSIDE DOWN !!!!!! FFS
someone had fitted the locating block in the car upside down , go figure ??
now, this could have been like this from new, but i doubt that, or it could have happened when the car went in last year for a rear bumper repair after my wife got driven into in a car park , the fitter probably just fitted it with little or no thought of trying the tow bar once done
so i got the spanners out, flipped over the holder , and guess what
it snapped in in two seconds and works perfectly
needless to say , it was now too late to pick up the trailer
then , onto the rear suspension , i had fitted new anti roll bar links to the front the day before, and thought that as i had the tools out i would fit the new Jaguar rear dampers that i got for a song on ebay a few months ago, the one side flew in taking less than half an hour , the other side fought me all the way , the bottom retaining bolt rounded off, then i ended up cutting it out, and then having to drill out the stub , good job i had new bolts to fit the dampers
all the trouble was well worth it though this weekend, as the removed old rear dampers compressed at different strengths and rates , and the new ones feel great on the car, and along with new components on the front, and new discs and pads all round with new tyres, she fells really good to drive at the moment
just some A-pillar interior trims, and upgrade the heating control panel to a digital one and i will be happy
