So I got it a week before Xmas out of necessity not wanting to do another winter on the motor bike and running out of time with my other project cars. Off to a bumpy start at first but was given a fresh mot three weeks ago and done three thousand miles in less than three month's and really enjoying it. Just booked the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe in mid may for me an my son to go on a road trip to central Portugal and back in two weeks to see my brother and his wife and my new house next door to him that I shall be moving to full time in just over a year. , I expect to be doing well over three thousand miles on the trip and so glad the air con and cruise control works, even got the sat nav working but it's a little out of date ats it's a 2006 disc in it. Is it worth updating to the last they did at 2012, it'll only be a back up as I'm using Google maps. By the way, drove a mk3 mondeo diesel the other day, can't see any comparison in the drive, jags better in every way.

Good for you. I would not bother searching out any update to the Satnav, think of it more as a "charming piece of period art", some of the so-called update discs can do more harm than good.

Glad you are enjoying your X-Type.
I have had mine since July last year and also getting on well with it.
Mine is an estate and the extra load space is very handy at times.
No sat nav or cruise though, and no computer for the mpg and stuff like that which is a bit of a shame.
All is good though.
Safe driving.
Andy

Welcome to the wonderful world of X-types. So pleased you seem to have found a good one. I have friends who have just bought a property in Portugal and maybe they should consider a diesel X-type for their long out and back journeys. I'll suggest it.
Hope you keep us updated with life in Portugal as "A Jagman Abroad"!

As much as I love the x type I think I shall be moving it on before making the permanent move to Portugal but I will be taking my 67 jag 420 with me. I will be getting a Portuguese registered car once I'm there but not seen any x type's, or any jags come to think of it. I can only import a couple of vehicles because of the cost of import tax, but the first is tax free. Lot's to work out so no decision can be made yet. Going to enjoy many miles in the Sun in my jag and on my bikes.

A quick update after returning from my road trip to Portugal. An amazing time had with my son doing 3260 miles without fault, averaging 49 mpg and 49 mph over the full trip. A very comfortable car which meant i was able to drive the 1320 miles to my brother's in one, bar two 3 hour nap stops, one near le mans and one in the mountains between Spain and Portugal. Not bad for what started out as £1000 car with a short mot. I did fit a stand alone digital GPS speedometer which was a God send. Time to start thinking about the next road trip, Scotland maybe but need to do a device soon as it's done just over 10 000 miles since the last one, 8000 of which I've done.
My advice to anyone is stop thinking about that road trip and get it done, some of the most amazing memories have been made for me and my son visiting places like the Pecos De Europa national park and Normandy and the D day beaches etc. Get out there while you still can.
