I bought my 3-litre X Type five years ago and it's been a great car - apart from being plagued with door lock problems. The driver's door lock had just been replaced when I bought the car because of an MOT failure (door wouldn't open from the inside). More recently, I had to have the O/S/R door lock replaced as the door wouldn't open from the outside and the alarm kept sounding. That lock cost £207 plus VAT plus fitting - more than £350 in all. Now the N/S door locks are causing problems - yes, both of them (!) - and I'm anticipating a £700 bill!
Are X Type door locks a particular problem and, if so, why? Is there anything I can do to prevent further failures? Are lock assemblies available anywhere else for less than the eye-watering £207 plus VAT charged by Jaguar? Any advice from other members would be much appreciated.

Re: Door lock problems
yes, used online for example, ebay , less than £20 in most cases , not too bad to swap , about 20 mins a door....
drivers door suffers from high use, other doors suffer from lack of use , just one of those thing, and expensive if you dont do the work yourself like regular lubrication and use...

Door lock problems
Many thanks for the advice about used locks from Ebay. I'll give it a try. And I'll try regular lubrication, too.
That said, I'm still puzzled about why Jaguar charge more for X-Type door locks than for almost any other model and why they are so much more prone to failure. I've had Jaguars for many years (X308 and X350R) and I've never had a door lock fail.
Anyway, thanks again for the advice.
