Holiday with the Xtype

Got back today from a trip to the North Lakes. My 2005 registered Xtype was loaded with luggage and 5 people,although one is only 22 months old. We stayed in a place called Silloth on the Solway Firth. Driving through the Lakes and the Jag,a 2.2D,suddenly lost power on the hilly,winding roads. At one point,we were overtaken by a.........motor Home!!! On arrival at the holiday park,my enquiries regarding a garage that would be open Saturday afternoon pointed me in the direction of an ATS in a friendly town called Wigton,a few miles from where we were staying. I explained the symptoms to the fella behind the counter who diagnosed straight away,a disconnected or split blower pipe. He didn't have the appropriate jubilee clip as the pressures on the clip mean an ordinary one would not suffice. He done a quick-fix with cable ties and said he had a clip at home and would sort it Monday morning,which he did. Went to pay and the guy behind the counter said that the mechanic had told him "don't worry about it,enjoy your week". I couldn't believe it and was well chuffed. Over the week,we travelled about 600 miles and the Jag performed brilliantly,especially on some of the single-track roads the SatNav took us on. The car didn't miss a beat after the fore mentioned repair. Took in Gretna Green as well as a 17th Century Priory and sections of Hadrian's Wall. A very good holiday made even better in the superb Jaguar Xtype. I bought it in early September with full service history,no rust and in very nice condition. Seller wanted £1,600 and I paid £1,460. Absolute bargain. Serviced the car before the holiday,a full one,obviously. I've owned quite a few cars since passing my test in January 1988 and have always wanted a Jaguar,deciding on a Deisel for running costs. Although,with the turbo kicking in,you wouldn't think it was a deisel as it's like greased lightning. Thought I'd share this with other Jaguar enthusiasts.
