My headlight jet washer cover on my Jaguar X Type has started to come loose and I have been told that the attachment has failed. I have had a look at the Auto Reserve website and they have one in stock which they describe as new 'aftermarket' but has metal fixings instead of the original plastic type which they say quite often break. Has anyone had experience of replacing these with this metal type of attachment, if so, is it a straight forward replacement?
Re: Headlight Jet Washer cover
I had to replace one of these and used the metal cruciform successfully. However, it is a scary business! The plastic lugs on the back of the cover and the jet assembly have to be sprung apart to fit the cross piece and they will snap off if over stressed. I recommend warming the plastic with a heatgun or hairdryer before flexing them. Also, try to flex both lugs of a pair rather than overflexing just one. A bit of lubricant can only help as well.
To get the washer jet extended, you can either get a helper to operate the system and then grab the jet while it's out, or if the cover is missing, you can get hold of the jet and pull it clear against its strong spring. Whichever way, use clothes peg to fit around the extended jet to prevent it withdrawing while you work on it
