To stay with my X type or not.....advice wanted.

Hi all.

I have an X Type 2005 2.0 D with 44K Miles on the clock.

I bought it 8 months ago.

I had a few initial problems (reversing sensors not working, boot leak and key fobs not working) which the dealer fixed.

Last Saturday the clutch went and I got a new one along with flywheel and other bits which cost 1700 euro in my ocal and only Jag dealer nearby.

I am now considering whether I should cut my losses and go back to a smaller cheaper to run car as I have the fear of many other expensive things going wrong with the car, e.g. gearbox, diesel turbo, electronic control unit which could cost even more.

I had thought that a diesel x type would be a good bet as it was cheap on fuel and that the diesel engine would last a long time.

Perhaps all jaguar motoring is really expensive.

Would you have any advice for me.

Hold tight and hopefully nonting else will go wrong OR
be prepared for all the other expensive items mentioned above to go wrong?

Any advice welcome.

Chris

Hi Chris,
I've had my 2005 2.0 D sport since new & we've covered 101000 km (63125), problems were; timing chain tensioner & key fobs reprogrammed under warranty, & at the last service & tuv (MOT) new front brake pads & discs & replaced drivers door light/alarm switch, total cost 1300 Euro's
(Our other car, a 2007 Ford Galaxy costs more to service than the Jag, & I was talking to a shopkeeper today & he told me his new shape sunday car, a Jag XK cabrio, costs less to service than his run-around VW Passat)

I've often thought about getting a new car, but getting 45 -50 mpg means that even a smaller car would not be worth giving up the Jag, plus with depreciation anything new would still cost a lot more.
