Electric Windows

I'm having a problem with my drivers side front window. First it starts with the not going fully up routine. Had this on both sides before and just pull fuses out and re insert to re set them. Now the drivers side has a new game. It gets within about four inches from the top then decides to go down again on its own. If I try again and get just before the point of descent stop then flick the switch up and then off quickly I can get it to go up in stages. If I keep the switch in the up position it still goes down when reaching the same spot as the automatic up does.
Anyone got any ideas as to how to fix this?

I`ve heard you can reset these windows by holding the button down for five seconds then up for five seconds. Sorry, not an expert on these cars but did hear this bit of info from someone.
Try a Google on the matter. The fault is bound to have been experienced before.

No joy I'm afraid it's still doing it. Have to keep flicking the switch up and letting go quickly in succession to get window up.

Sounds like an issue with the anti trap feature that automatically lowers the window if it comes up against resistance, eg trapped fingers. First thing I would do is get some silicone spray and spray down all the window channels to make it move easier, this may cure the problem. These things work by measuring resistance to movement, so if the channels are dry the resistance to movement is raised and the anti trap kicks in. Dont use WD40, silicons spray is much longer lasting. Worth a try anyway.

Ted,
Often sticking can be caused by the channel rubbers "drying out". Rubbing in rubber grease or Vasaline can help the action. I do this twice a year on my S-type and that saves broken lift wires.
Hope that might help.

Also, you can reset the one touch open and close facility, should be instructions in the handbook, as the procedure varies model to model,

Silicon spray applied liberally to the window channels may help.

Tried everything Inc discconnecting battery to no avail. It obviously needs resetting but does not respond to procedures prescribed?including silicon spray. Looks like it's destined for main dealer.

Copied and pasted below from 'another' forum, but i suspect you have already tried....
Andy
When you disconnect the battery, you need to reset all the one touch features.
The way to do this is simple, basically roll the window down and keep the switch pressed after the window is all the way down for a couple seconds. Repeat when you roll the window back up, and voila the one touch works again =) You need to do this for all the windows, and it only works from the drivers door switch.
Same applies for the sunroof.
Basically it lets you choose which windows you want to have one touch...
