Estate rear window- a mind of its own

My rear window has a mind of its own. I unlock the car OK and start the engine and the rear window unlocks. Another time all seems OK and when I move off and the main locking sytem locks the doors the rear windows unlocks!!

Answer- stop the car get out and shut the rear glass.

Any clues??

I have a 2007 estate and in December the tail gate glass section on engaging gear after start up would release, just like yours, and solution was to get out manually lift then shut and everything was ok. This carried on for say three weeks and now it won't open at all. The tail gate is fine, just the glass operated part within it. I too would like to know the cause of this problem?

The tailgate problem is yet another Jaguar design cock up, thousands of owners have suffered this problem(look at forums on this subject outside the JEC).
The trouble is caused by the ingress of water down the wiper shaft and getting into the coil area. The only way this can be repaired is to purchase a new Latch/coil assy costing about £80. You must remember that the wiper arm assembly is supported by the glass screen so when removing the wiper arm using a 13mm spanner and then pulling off the arm care must be excercised and using a small 2 arm puller or wiper arm puller to remove the arm is the safest way.
Providing that there is little corrosion so far, remove the 22mm nut after soaking it in easing oil at least over night then carefully pull off the handle (this may not be easy) with the coil section attached and a section of lead. The rest of the work involves removing the 2 nuts that hold the trim cover on the back of the screen and the 2 10mm nuts will be exposed when you remove these having broken the connector you can carefully pull out the assembly and take the latch handle off from the outside, the wire and connector will go out with it from the outside. If there is a lot of corrosion it may be difficult to get the handle off the shaft. It will be of benefit to buy a new handle/coil unit £80 first so that you can see how it goes together
Take great care when moving the ribbon cable any damage will cost you a new screen (£600). Use lots of silicon grease when re assembling. If there is no corrosion this will take you under 1 hour.
