heated front windscreen

the driver's side of my heated front windcreen has never worked. fuses and relays seem ok as the passenger side is fine (RHD car). any suggestions as to what I can try next welcome. appears you need a special tool to remove the windscreen wiper to allow removal of the black trim at base of screen and hence get at the connectors at the base of the screen

I had this problem with one fitted by Autoglass as a replacement for the original that got smashed by a gritter. The only solution was to fit a new replacement screen - I insisted on a genuine part 2nd time around.
