Remote Key not working 2001 3.0L.

Hello Folks,
The remote key stopped working so sent it away for refurb and rcvd it back and still it does'nt work. Looks like the problem lies elsewhere and would welcome any advice on how to proceed from members who have encountered this problem particularly where is the transponder located in the car and is it possible to check/replace? Thanx in anticipation.. Charlie.

As a first step, have you checked that the shutter in the ignition keyhole is closing properly when you remove the key. With the key removed, about 50% of the opening should be closed off by the shutter. The wedge-shaped end of the key should raise the spring-loaded shutter as the key is inserted. WD40 is not a good long term solution to this problem. It goes gooey and makes the problem even worse, although some of their newer products such as Dry PTFE may do better. I don't know! Lock lube or graphite powder can help.

If that all seems OK, it may be that your key needs re-programming to the car. Jaguar issued a TSB explaining how to do this without any additional equipment and it can be found here

According to the TSB a chime should be heard at various stages of the procedure, but my X type doesn't do that! Carry on with the process regardless. It doesn't always work first time either

Many thanx for the reply~managed to get it working by cleaning contacts and opening the ECU and checking. Also had the remote key checked and all Ok. Would have replied earlier but have had difficulty signing on to the Forum~it seems you have to change Yr password every time. Rgds.

I do have to sign in every time, unlike any of the other forums I belong to, but I never have to change my password! Something wrong there I think.
