Parking Aid Diagnostic

Hi, I have a 2004 X-Type 2.5L AWD estate, and have a problem with my parking aid sensors.

I assumed it was a faulty sensor, but on getting down on my hands and knees all 8 seem to be clicking quite happily.

So I put the diagnostic box on to check the codes, and have the following:

C1744 Front sounder - circuit failure
B2477 Control Module - config failure

I am getting the 3 second warning beep when turning on the ignition, and the parking aid red warning light on the overhead central panel.

Am I right in assuming that because I am hearing the failure warning beep that there is nothing wrong with the actual speaker?

Should I try replacing the front parking aid control module, and if so how easy is it to change?

Diagnosis equipment will "point" towards the problem area. The machine may say that the module or some other component is faulty but the reality is that the fault could also be caused by damaged, rotted or water impregnated cable or perhaps connection plugs and sockets where resistance or corrosion hot spots may kick up diagnosis codes that are the same or are similar to the codes generated by faulty sensors and modules.

Before changing components, it is wise and vastly less costly to give the cables, plugs and sockets, plugs and sockets a good going over. Some times just unplugging a plug and socket is enough to restore current or signal flow to a sensor or module. If that occurs, well you are suddenly quids in again!

Those of us who have owned similar aged Jaguars will be very familiar with the symptom. In fifteen years of Jaguar ownership, I`ve probably seen or heard about similar parking sensor issues at least a thousand times. I`d suggest you need to spend a little time hot spot hunting before shelling out needlessly on new components.
