X-Type 2.2 diesel

Is it normal for the 2.2 diesel to run very cold? The temperature gauge hardly moves off the low ( cold ) position. Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes it is quite normal for the diesels to run much colder than the petrol engined versions. For instance, my 2.5 petrol would be up to running temperature in about two miles whereas my 2.2 diesel takes closer to 6-7 miles before the temperature gauge is up to the halfway position. I thought there was something wrong but a check with my main dealer confirmed the point.
This is mostly to do with the thermodynamics of converting fuel/heat into mechanical energy - the diesel is much more efficient at it.

I have a 2008 2.2 estate diesel temprature normaly runs just below the middle of the temp scale on the gauge whatever the weather

This model has a heater which warms up the engine so it normaly reaches operateing temp by the time I have done one or two miles.
