2004 X Type Estate SED ( I think!) 2 litre Diesel
my wife is buying the above Jaguar and I am a little concerned of having read in the JEC magazines frequent references to abnormal wear (tracking/camber) on the front tyres.
Is this problem only present on 4 wheel drive cars or is it common throughout all X types saloons and estates ?

Hello there,
There have been problems with wear mostly on the inside edges of front tyres on the X Type but in some cases on the rear tyres. It is not limited to the AWD versions but seems to be more common on the wider low profile tyres on 17 inch wheels. For example, one member had no problems with his 2.5 AWD Sport on 16 inch whels but major problems on his 2.5 SE AWD with 17 inch wheels.
The thing to look out for is wear on the inside edges near the shoulder of the tyre. The only really effective way to do a thorough check is to jack the wheel up and rotate it.
I suggest you get a 4 wheel laser check done and this will also look at the camber settings. There is a special bolt available if your camber settings are out of Jaguar specification. Make sure you have a full tank of fuel when this is done as the latest Jaguar settings assume a full tank of fuel. This check at a Pirelli Performance Centre is much cheaper than a main dealer.
One of our members who posts on this site (BuckMR2) says that he has had his front wheel alignment settings set to parallel and he has had no more advanced wear problems.
Tyre pressure recommendations have also changed recently. Earlier cars had a comfort and normal setting and this has now been replaced with settings for speeds up to 100 mph and another for over 100mph. Have a look at the label on the dash end on the drivers side

Ref the tyre pressures - I assume the label on the car will be of 2004 vintage and you imply that recommended pressures have changed since then - If so can you suggest where I can get the current pressures ? Once I know the sizes fitted of course)

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but there seems to be some lack of clarity about the revised tyre pressures.
Suggest you check with your nearest Jagauar Main dealer
